We’re in it for the long haul like you
Waitomo was founded in 1947 by Desmond Ormsby of Te Kuiti.
Those were the days before the transport and oil industries in New Zealand became de-regulated, so Waitomo operated exclusively in the Waitomo District. But we’ve come a long way since then, having grown to become one of the country’s largest independent suppliers of petroleum products from the top of the north to the bottom of the south. During this time we also went through a period of joint ownership between the Ormsby family and Mobil Oil New Zealand, reverting back to 100% Kiwi family ownership in 2003. Desmond Ormsby’s original vision more than 60 years ago of Waitomo being built around honesty and integrity remains as true to his ideals today as they ever did. Following in his father’s footsteps, Grey Ormsby worked tirelessly to ensure Waitomo’s customers continued to receive innovative supply solutions, outstanding service, great value and good old fashion honesty and integrity. Grey is now Chairman of our Board of Directors and his son Jimmy Ormsby joined the Waitomo team in 2003.
